Surrey open studios is an event organised by the County arts council. This was a fantastic opportunity to introduce my work to the local community and to meet the other artists and makers around my area. 2019 was the 19th consecutive year for this event to take place.
The open studio registration is $80 (individual artist)excluding the annual membership fee. If you are running the studio session with several other artists the fee is slightly higher. All marketing materials are included in the fee and you will get your set of catalogs ( 70 each) mid May. Trail maps which are organised among the artists is printed separately. The event ran from the 1st of June till the 16th. I decided to join with a few other artist who had studios closer to mine and we created a trail for the local art enthusiasts.
I did draw a few people through out the duration and made several sales. Most came during weekend evenings as part of a weekend activity. Retirees were quite often among them. students and other artists were next most common. Those who were seriously looking for art came in rare occasions. My major sales were made through my own contacts and friends.
Will I do this again next year? most certainly yes. However I will take different approach to the number of days I will be open as well as a couple of workshops during the weekends.
